Medical Volunteers

Providers - Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, or Physicians to see patients in a primary care setting.

  • Qualifications: Unrestricted Iowa license, professional malpractice insurance or become a participant in the Volunteer Health Care Provider Program through the Iowa Department of Public Health
  • Frequency: Once a month or more often
  • When: Tuesdays or Thursdays 5:15 pm to 7:30 pm

Nurses - LPNs and RNs to take patients’ history and vitals in a primary care setting

  • Qualifications: Unrestricted Iowa license, professional malpractice insurance or become a participant in the Volunteer Health Care Provider Program through the Iowa Department of Public Health
  • Frequency: Once a month or more often
  • When: Tuesdays or Thursdays 4:45 pm to 7:30 pm

Pharmacy Volunteers - Volunteers to assist providers in filling prescriptions

  • Qualifications: Experienced Pharmacy technicians, experienced MAs, or those who are currently a pre-med or nursing student
  • Frequency: Once a month or more often
  • When: Tuesdays or Thursdays 5:15 pm to 7:30 pm

Follow-up Nurse - LPN or RN to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support through follow-up phone calls to patients

  • Qualifications: Unrestricted Iowa license, professional malpractice insurance or become a participant in the Volunteer Health Care Provider Program through the Iowa Department of Public Health & complete the clinic’s prayer support training
  • Frequency: Variable, preference is once a week but could be done bi-weekly
  • When: Flexible

Other Volunteer Positions

Prayer Support - Volunteers to provide spiritual care by praying with patients

  • Qualifications: a committed Christian who feels comfortable praying with others & has completed clinic’s prayer support training
  • Frequency: Once a month or more
  • When: 3rd Tuesday of the month-5:00 pm to 7:30 pm
    Thursdays-5:00 pm to 7:30 pm
    Thursdays-3:00 pm to 4:30 pm
    Fridays-10 am to 12 pm

Appointment Scheduler - A volunteer to answer phones and take appointments

  • Qualifications: Good phone skills, legible handwriting
  • Frequency: Variable
  • When: 1st & 3rd Tuesdays 11:30 am to 1 pm
    3rd & 5th Thursdays 11:30 pm to 1 pm

Receptionist - A volunteer to greet patients, prepare patient files, answer phones, and do various administrative tasks.

  • Qualifications: Organized, be able to multi-task, have good phone skills, legible handwriting, and willingness to learn various administrative tasks
  • Frequency: Variable
  • When: 1st Tuesday 4:30-7:30 pm

Donation Assistant - A volunteer to assist with entering data into a new donor database and updating donor information.

  • Qualifications: Computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Access
  • Frequency: Variable
  • When: Flexible

Social Worker - Social workers who would meet with patients to discuss non-medical needs

  • Qualifications: Unrestricted Iowa license, professional malpractice insurance or become a participant in the Volunteer Health Care Provider Program through the Iowa Department of Public Health & go through prayer support training
  • Frequency: Once a month or more
  • When: Tuesdays 5:00 pm to 7:15 pm
    Thursdays 5:00 pm to 7:15 pm

Facility Supervisor - A volunteer who will ensure that the clinic is a hospitable and clean place

  • Qualifications: Willingness to clean, light carpentry work (or recruiting someone else to do it); coordinate with director on various projects or facility needs
  • Frequency: Variable, preference is once a week but could be done bi-weekly
  • When: Flexible

Fundraising - Assist with fundraising efforts to individuals and churches

  • Qualifications: Experience in fundraising, good communication skills-including public speaking
  • Frequency: Variable

Marketing - Assist the Director with developing and implementing a marketing plan

  • Qualifications: Experience in marketing
  • Frequency: Variable
