Medical Services
A visit to the Medical Clinic should cost a patient absolutely nothing. If a lab or x-ray is ordered, the hospitals (St. Luke's Methodist or Mercy Hospital) will cover the cost of that test. If a medication is prescribed and you cannot afford the cost, His Hands will cover one month of that medication. Here is some other important information about our Medical Clinics:
Medical Clinic Hours
Tuesdays: 5 - 7pm (call at noon that day for an appointment)
Thursdays: 5 - 7pm (call at noon that day for an appointment)
1st and 3rd Tuesdays monthly: 12 - 2pm

How to Make an Appointment
His Hands values your time, and we know that it’s hard to sit and wait for attention when you are sick. Because of this, we require appointments for all of our clinics.
Appointments for our daytime clinics (on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays monthly, 12-2pm) can be made at any time by calling 319-862-2636.
Appointments for our evening clinics (Tuesday and Thursdays, 5-7pm) are made when our appointment scheduler is available. We ask that you contact us after 12pm on the day you need to see the doctor by calling 319-862-2636.
Limited Transportation Assistance available
For patients relying on Cedar Rapids public transportation, we may be able to help them return home from a medical appointment. These appointments must be scheduled on Thursdays only and at least 24 hours in advance.
How to Make Your Visit Great
Patients don't need to bring anything to their visit. But, there are a few things you can do to make your visits efficient and productive:
- 1. Make your appointment by calling at the specified time (see above). Walk-ins to the clinic are not turned away, but priority is given to our patients with appointments.
- 2. Keep your appointment. If you find that you have a conflict, call us AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so that we can put another patient in your place. Please do not miss your appointment without calling us. This is very important: if you miss three appointments without notification, we will not schedule you for up to one year.
- 3. Write down any symptoms ahead of time. It is easy to forget things when you are at the doctor’s office. If you have several things to talk to the doctor about, let us know so that we can schedule the right amount of time.
- 4. Be prepared to tell the nurse all the medications you are on.
Chiropractic Services
Our licensed chiropractors are available to diagnose and treat disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system. A visit to our chiropractors will cost a patient nothing. If the chiropractor orders an x-ray, the hospitals (St. Luke’s Methodist or Mercy Hospital) will cover the cost of that test. Currently, His Hands has five chiropractors volunteering with us at various times throughout the month.

Limited Prescription Assistance
His Hands offers limited prescription assistance to patients with written scripts.
For Prescriptions Written by a His Hands Provider:
His Hands has a Sample Room where we collect and dispense sample medications. Whenever possible, we try either to prescribe out of our current inventory or to write scripts for medications on the $4 generic lists. For some patients, this is either impossible or still presents a financial burden. We can assist with up to $50 (per patient) towards one month of your medication. For ongoing prescription needs, we will refer you to available programs.
For General Prescription Assistance and Refills:
If you have a prescription written by another provider (i.e. the emergency room or a refill) and cannot afford that prescription, we can try to help. If we have that medication in our Sample Room, we can dispense that medication to you.
Procedures:
- 1. All prescription assistance requests must be accompanied by a written prescription. An empty, labeled prescription bottle is not acceptable. If you do not have a written prescription, please talk to your prescribing provider and have one faxed to us at 319-862-1107.
- 2. Allow us at least one week. It may take some time to process your request. Please call us at least 7 days before you run out of your medication.
- 3. We do not schedule clinic appointments for patient just needing medication refills. If you are a His Hands patient and simply need a refill on your medication, please call the office at any time and we will help you out.
Prayer
At His Hands Free Medical clinic, we recognize that one’s spiritual health is just as – if not more – important as one’s physical health. Because of this, we like to offer trained Prayer Supporters at every clinic.
Prayer is not required from our patients, but we offer it freely. Our Prayer Supporters are available to listen to you and pray with you, as appropriate. We do not judge, lecture, or even discuss a patient’s religious background, orientation, or life experiences. We are simply here to care about you and to share in your journey for a short time. If you are not interested in prayer, please mention this to the nurse when you are taken to your room so that the scheduled Prayer Supporter does not visit your room.
His Hands also distributes Bibles and the devotional, Our Daily Bread, to patients who want them. As well, we can also help you find a local church if you want to become better connected.
